Texas Tea. That’s the nickname for oil in the Lone Star state.
It seems that Gavin Newsom has been sipping on it for the better part of two decades now.
It turns out, the Gettys aren’t the only oil barons that Newsom has cozied up to.
The “Fortunate Son” has ties to James Meeker, a wealthy oil heir whose Meeker Investments, Inc. owns “Oil and Gas Leases” in Texas, of all places:
The relationship between Newsom and this other oil entity isn’t some fluke – it dates back 20 years – and it, too, appears to be connected to the Getty oil barons (more on that, below).
Dating back to 1998 when he sat on the Board of Supervisors, Gavin’s “Form 700s” – financial disclosure statements – show income from Meeker Investments. In the “Business Activity” description, Newsom listed the income as being from “Natural Resources” and listed himself as an Investor/Partner of the business. While the earlier years of investments in oil and gas produced a mere $250-$1,000 according to his 1998 financial disclosure form, those investments grew over the years upward to the $10,000 per year range, showing very clearly that Newsom profited off oil and gas royalties.
On EVERY financial disclosure Form 700 from 1996 until at least 2010, Newsom received income from Meeker Investments, Inc. related to “Natural Resources.” This is according to his Form 700 filed on February 13, 1997 and going all the way through a Form 700 filed on March 30, 2010 when he served as Mayor of San Francisco. The income distribution to Newsom as of 2010 was estimated at $1,000 to $10,000 annually from oil and gas.
In addition to the investments in oil and gas that the “Fortunate Son” profited from, according to the Secretary of State’s database Newsom was also the recipient of campaign contributions from the wealthy oil donor Meeker:

What is the connection to Meeker? It appears to be yet another Getty family connection, as Meeker was photographed at the San Francisco Mayor’s Christmas party in 2016 hosted by none other than Ann and Gordon Getty. Meeker also attended Newsom’s wedding.
These additional ties to oil and gas come after we shared with you last week that Newsom and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, were investors in the Deepwater Horizon oil rig that was involved in the BP oil underwater explosion which spilled more than 3 million barrels of oil, making it the worst accidental oil spill in history.
Whether underwater offshore oil rigs, or “Texas Tea,” it sure seems that Newsom has an appetite for oil – and he has profited handsomely from oil both personally as an investor, as well as in financial campaign contributions from the country’s oil-rich millionaires and billionaires.
